Removing 3 Different Kinds of Paint from your Carpet

You may be repainting a part of your home or just doing a DIY project when paint gets spilled on your carpet. There are different ways you can tackle this problem depending on the kind of paint. Check out the following examples:

Oil-Based Paint

1. Clean the area with a steam cleaner to remove the paint. Repeat to remove as much of the paint as possible.
2. Dab a cloth in acetone, hydrogen peroxide or paint thinner and blot the stain to remove the paint. This method may cause discoloration of the carpet. Continue blotting to remove as much of the stain as possible.
3. Trim the fibers of the carpet with a pair of scissors to remove paint on the tips. Cut the carpet fibers right below the paint to remove as little of the fibers as you can while removing as much paint as possible. This method should be used as a last resort, as removing too much of the carpet will cause the spot to look bare. Source: SFGate

Acrylic Paint

If you happen to spill any acrylic paint onto your floor, then it is best to get it while it is still wet. If you are able to get it before it dries, you will need to get your wet vacuum and suck up as much of the paint as possible. Once you have done this, you will need to then get the area completely covered with water and laundry detergent. Look to see if there are any spots anywhere that need to be scrubbed. If there are, then do so immediately. Once you have gotten the area cleaned up, get your wet vacuum back out and suck up all of the water that is left over. Make sure that you set fans over the carpet so that it is able to dry quickly. If the paint has had the chance to dry, then you will do the same thing only you will let the water and laundry detergent soak for a few hours before you scrub or vacuum it up.

Latex Paint

As with acrylic paints, these paints are water based but may have a vinyl mix rather than an acrylic resin mix; it all depends on the price as vinyl is cheaper to use.[1] Either way, here is how to fix a paint spill made by latex paint.

1. Contain the spill: Place paper towels around the paint to keep it from spreading.

Use dry paper towels to blot the spilled paint. Do not rub; only blot. Get up as much of the paint as you can with this method, without spreading it.

2. Mix one teaspoon of a neutral detergent with 240ml of tepid water. The neutral detergent must be mild and free of all alkalies or bleaches.
3. Blot gently on the paint stain.
4. Sponge with clean water.
5. Repeat as often as needed to remove the stain. Source: WikiHow
